Alameen Post Partners with UNHCR for the Refugee Zakat Fund distribution for Ramadhan 2024

Alhamdulillah, Alameen Post is glad to share our partnership with UNHCR again for Ramadhan 2024. Alameen Post has been a partner with UNHCR since Ramadhan of 2022 when we appealed for humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen. With your support we were able to raise $20,606 and helped 1,129 vulnerable people to meet their essential needs for a month.

In 2023 we raised about $7,250 towards the UNHCR Zakat fund.

UNHCR issues yearly and mid-year reports about their Zakat funds. The most recent report has some great information about where funding went in 2023. The impact section on this page helps to demonstrate where the funds were spent! You can see that report here: https://zakat.unhcr.org/annualreport

AlameenPost is the first Muslim entity in BC to be their partner. Our Partnership with UNHCR is at a volunteer capacity and we do not get any percentage of the funds we generate. Their zakat admin fee is zero percent. UNHCR will collect funds and issue charitable receipts.

The links are shared below if you would like to contribute. Jazak Allah Khair.

UNHCR and Alameen Post Partnership support the Refugee Zakat Fund distribution.

For the last 20 years Alameen Post has been serving as a primary source of News and Views on local and national issues that matter to the Muslim community of British Columbia. By raising awareness on issues, we were able to engage our readership on various projects and relief efforts locally and internationally.

In July of 2010 massive floods devastated Pakistan which led to a humanitarian disaster. It was considered to be one of the worst in Pakistan’s history at which point Alameen Post decided to organize relief efforts for the displaced.

In the following years we were able to raise for the Rohingya, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Syria, Somalia and Afghanistan.

Today with the rapid rise of refugees and IDPs from Muslim countries – 60% of whom are coming from member states of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation, Alameen Post has decided to partner with a trusted, compliant, and effective distributor for zakat funds with a global and transnational reach with unequivocal access on the front lines of refugee crisis.

UNHCR implements several humanitarian programs, including shelter, healthcare, education, economic inclusion and cash assistance. The latter was identified as the best fit for Zakat distribution, assuring funds are received by the most vulnerable beneficiary families.

UNHCR’s Refugee Zakat Fund follows a 100% Zakat distribution policy, ensuring 100% of Zakat contributions are delivered directly to eligible families most in need. Through the Fund, vulnerable families, including women and children, are supported with cash assistance to cover basic needs such as rent, food, healthcare, and debt repayment. UNHCR is covering overhead costs associated with Zakat distribution from non-Zakat sources.

In some specific cases, Zakat may also be distributed in the form of in-kind assistance, such as core relief items, and hygiene/shelter/education kits. UNHCR’s Refugee Zakat Fund is subject to rigorous governance and oversight, ensuring transparency at every step, leading to the provision of assistance.

Alameen Post’s partnerships with UNHCR will help refugees and IDPs in most desperately needed places.

Give your Zakat this Ramadan to change the lives of refugee families' who desperately need your support.
