Hass, a journalist with Ha'aretz based in Ramallah, has been covering daily life in the occupied Palestinian territories since 1991. Hass describes her role as "writing about the Israeli occupier, by way of describing the life of Palestinians." Her lecture, Israel-Palestine: Fear of the Future, will discuss Israel's occupation, and Palestinians' ways to resist.

Rumana lost sight in both her eyes, and received serious wounds to her face. She is currently undergoing medical treatment in Vancouver. So far she has done two eye surgeries which were unsuccessful.
MSA-UBC is holding a fundraising Iftar on Aug 12th (8pm at Scottish Cultural Centre) to help Sr. Rumana. The money will go towards her medical treatment, relocation costs, academic expenses, daycare for her daughter, and other living expenses.
