On Saturday, December 20th, the halls of Britannia – Gym D and the 55+ Centre were transformed into a vibrant space of culture, resistance, and generosity during The Drive for Palestine, a community and cultural fundraiser organized entirely by a dedicated committee of volunteers in collaboration with local community groups.
From 11:00am to 6:00pm, families, elders, youth, and allies gathered to support an important cause: all funds raised from the event were dedicated to relief efforts through the Gaza Soup Kitchen, providing vital support to families facing unimaginable hardship.
The event was a powerful reminder of what collective action looks like. Visitors were welcomed with the aromas and flavors of authentic Palestinian treats, while local vendors offered an opportunity to shop locally and ethically during the holiday season. The marketplace reflected not just commerce, but connection—each purchase becoming an act of solidarity.
One of the most moving highlights was the “Gaza Remains the Story” art exhibit, which invited attendees to pause, reflect, and engage with Palestinian narratives through powerful visual storytelling. Alongside the exhibit, community partner tables provided information, resources, and meaningful conversations.
The day was enriched with Indigenous and Palestinian cultural performances, a fashion show, and live Tatreez embroidery, celebrating heritage, resilience, and intergenerational knowledge. Children enjoyed a dedicated kids’ corner, while others participated in the raffle and silent auction, further contributing to the fundraiser’s success.
More than just an event, The Drive for Palestine was a testament to community strength—proof that culture, art, and compassion can come together to create real impact. It demonstrated that even in difficult times, people can gather with purpose, uplift one another, and stand firmly for justice and humanity.
As the doors closed at the end of the day, the spirit of the event continued—carried forward through shared stories, images, and the knowledge that every contribution made a difference.
Thank you to all the volunteers, performers, vendors, partners, and attendees who made this day possible. Together, the drive continues.
