A vital first step for settling successfully in Canada
Options Community Services has opened a new Language Assessment and Referral Centre (LARC) in Coquitlam, offering free English assessments to support newcomers in starting their journey toward successful settlement in Canada.
In response to growing demand, Options now operates two LARC locations — one in Surrey and a newly launched office in Coquitlam. The Coquitlam centre, opened in June 2025, is conveniently located near public transit, improving access for many individuals and families.
LARC provides free English language assessments to eligible immigrants and refugees, and connects them to LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) classes — government-funded programs designed to improve speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
Whether someone is just beginning or looking to improve their English, LARC staff guide clients through a welcoming and professional assessment process. Each person is referred to a class that fits their level, goals, and location.
Options LARC serves clients living in:
Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Burnaby, New Westminster, Surrey, Delta, and Langley.
“Getting an English assessment is the first step to gaining confidence,” says Diana Delgado, Executive Director of Employment and Immigrant Services at Options.
“It helps newcomers feel more independent in daily life, at work, and in the community.”
All services are free, confidential, and available by appointment.
