Downtown Surrey — In a heartfelt gathering filled with gratitude and community spirit, Masjid Al Noor hosted a memorable Volunteer Appreciation Program on August 7, 2026. The evening brought together community members, past directors, dedicated volunteers, and founding leaders to celebrate the continuous service and dedication that have sustained the center for over three decades.
The program opened with a warm address from President Janif Mohammed, who reminded attendees of the humble beginnings of the masjid in downtown Surrey. Founded in 1994, the dream was brought to life through the vision and hard work of four founding members: Haji Suleman Bhamji, Haji Dean Mohammed, Haji Ibrahim Patel, and Haji Yusuf Bhamji.
"Everything starts with an idea... If it was not for these four individuals, we wouldn’t be standing here today," expressed President Janif Mohammed, offering deep appreciation on behalf of the entire congregation. "May Allah accept their hard work and reward them both here and in the Hereafter."
Since opening its doors on July 1, 1994, Masjid Al Noor has relied on the unwavering support of countless volunteers, donors, and staff—both past and present. The evening paid homage to all who have contributed over the years, including those who have passed away and those who continue to serve the community daily. Special commemorative plaques were presented during the event to recognize exceptional efforts and long-standing dedication.
Looking ahead, the leadership also shared an encouraging update on the proposed new Masjid project, which continues to move forward on schedule. An open presentation for the congregation will be held once updates are finalized with the City Planning Department.
The event concluded with sincere prayers (Dua) for all supporters, volunteers, imams, teachers, and founders. As Masjid Al Noor continues its journey of service and growth, the leadership expresses its heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributes—seen and unseen—to strengthening the community.
The enduring success and spiritual vitality of Masjid Al Noor stand as a testament to the tireless dedication of our founders, leaders, Imams, volunteers, and local partners who have poured their hearts into serving Allah's house since 1994. From maintaining the grounds and managing parking, to preparing meals during Ramadan, providing administrative guidance, and supporting major facility projects, every act of service—visible or hidden—has helped build a strong and welcoming community. Expressing deep gratitude for this collective effort, President Janif Mohammed shared:
"My Dua for everyone whether they are alive or not is that Allah SWT accept their contributions in all forms and means and reward them in manifolds. Aameen."
May Allah (SWT) continuously bless all our past and present contributors, reward them abundantly in both worlds, and grant success to all ongoing and future endeavors of Masjid Al Noor. Jazakum Allahu Khairan.
Jazakum Allahu Khairan to all who make Masjid Al Noor a true home for the community.
