Starting tomorrow over a billion Muslims worldwide will begin to celebrate Eid Al Adha.
This special holiday is a reminder to Muslims of Abraham’s sacrifice of his son as an act of devotion to God. It is about giving of what’s best of yourself -- that which is most precious of yours -- to God. It is a celebration of generosity and charity.
As Eid Al Adha also marks the end of the annual holy pilgrimage to Mecca, I want to welcome back all who are returning from the Hajj, and thank them for their deep commitment to values of unity and peace.
The values of unity, peace, charity, family and friendship are dear to Muslims and non-Muslims alike, reinforce our common bond of humanity, and speak to our shared belief in fundamental social justice.
Along with my NDP colleagues, I would like to thank Canada’s Muslim communities for their contributions and commitments towards creating a stronger fabric of respect and understanding in this beautiful country.
I wish you a prayerful, bountiful celebration, and in the spirit of peace and friendship, Eid Mubarak!
