Physician receives the Humanitarian Award of Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America.

Dr. Faisal Khosa is the recipient of the Humanitarian award of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America (APPNA). This award was announced on 7 July 2019 at APPNA’s summer meeting in Orlando Florida. For more than a decade Dr. Khosa has served APPNA in various roles including Chair of young physicians committee and Co-chair of Research, Education and Scientific Affairs (RESA) committee. Dr. Khosa is an Associate Professor at University of British Columbia and was the recipient of education and mentoring award of APPNA RESA committee in 2018.
In the last 20 years, he has pioneered, championed and supported many philanthropic initiatives, including schools and free healthcare clinics in support of minorities and indigent populations in the developing world. He has delivered more than 200 invited lectures at institutions across the globe, authored 142 peer-reviewed manuscripts, published over two dozen book chapters and has received over six million dollars in collaborative grants in North America. In his career he has mentored more than 500 students from academically underrepresented groups including students with mental and physical disabilities (cerebral palsy, polio etc.). Dr. Khosa spearheads the imaging section of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM). WADEM and its international partners strive to improve the scientific basis for disaster and emergency health practice and to establish best practices based on validated evidence. The outcomes of this work protect communities, reduce morbidity and mortality, improve recovery, and enable the development of more resilient communities. This entails developing the program, collaborating and coordinating with all participant specialities, inviting physicians from all over the world to participate and share their experiences under one roof. This work also includes devising policies to ensure the provision of imaging resources and radiology staff in times of natural and manmade disasters.
He has received awards for philanthropy and excellence in education, mentorship and advocacy in Pakistan, UAE, USA and Canada including the Canadian Association of Radiologists – Young Investigator Award (2019); Vancouver Coastal Health – Healthcare Hero Award (2018); Canadian Radiological Foundation Leadership Scholarship (2017); People First Leadership Award – Vancouver Coastal Health (2017); College of Physicians and Surgeons Examiners Award (2017); Outstanding Support Award by VGH Trauma Program (2016); American Roentgen Ray Society Scholar (2013 – 2016); Outstanding Young Investigator Award in USA (2015); One in One Hundred Mentor Award in USA (2014); “Medal of Excellence” (Tamgha-i-Imtiaz) by the Government of Pakistan (2013); Outstanding Service to Medicine Award by College of Physicians and Surgeons in Pakistan (2012); Education and Mentoring award in UAE (2012).
