This Eid is one that will be celebrated with much fanfare as we slowly get through the worst of the pandemic and get back to some normalcy in our lives. Every caution should be taken to celebrate the festival of Eid safely with loved ones in a contained environment.
Eid is the greatest festival for the Muslim people. May the delight and the moments measure all the special joys for all of you to treasure.
May the magic of this Eid bring lots of happiness in your life. May you celebrate it with close friends and families and may your hearts be filled with love and joy.
This festival marks the end of Ramadan. Ramadan being the holy month of fasting. The festival of Eid is celebrated the day after the fast ends. I have fond memories from when I was a young man in Fiji and then growing up in Canada of what the celebrations meant to my Muslim friends.
They would get up early in the morning. They would take a bath and put on their best clothes. This is followed by a ritual where they took part in decorating their homes. My friends and their families would embrace each other, me and my family and we would exchange Eid greetings. "Eid Mubarak" was on the lips of all the Muslims during this celebration. I remember going to their houses for a celebration of great food, companionship, and sweets.
Eid is celebrated by people of all cultures. Fijians of all designation whether they are Hindus, Muslims or Christians celebrate Eid with the same passion and unity. The celebration of Eid promotes national integration and the feeling of brotherhood.
It is a festival of love and goodwill. It gives us a message to love all and hate none. It teaches us to embrace all men and women as brothers and sisters.
May this Eid bring you good health. Please take time to acknowledge those in need either within our community or back in Fiji. This is an especially difficult time for our people in Fiji.
The pandemic has crippled our tourism-based economy and any help from abroad will be very much appreciated. This is a special celebration for the poor and for the wealthy. This is one day that wealth does not matter so let us try to see that every Muslim gets to celebrate Eid to the fullest.
Sincerely,
Bobby Naicker
