VMW 2nd Annual Film Festival & Awards Gala

The Voices of Muslim Women (VMW) 2nd Annual Film Festival & Awards Gala showcased specially selected films created in the Digital Lens Storytelling Program and recognized the amazing women in our community.  Eight Muslim women were recognized for their exceptional achievements in BC. in 8 different categories.

The gala took place at the Bell Center for Performing Arts in Surrey on April 22, 2018.

It must be said that the organizers were very particular about the ambience at the gala. The hard work and talent of the volunteers paid off as the guests were amazed by the dedication in organizing the event.   The entire event was professionally presented which made it more memorable for all.

VMW is a non-profit organization, which was created in 2017 in efforts to bring together self-identifying Muslim women of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds in order to showcase the incredible diversity of Muslim women and the outstanding talent and power they possess.

The event was conducted with much enthusiasm and fanfare. It was a night of celebration for the women who showed exceptional devotion in their endeavours.

Aisha Amijee concluded the program with much grace and humility and thanked the elders in our community to raise a generation of resilient youth who are willing and capable to work towards the betterment of our community.


 
Sadra Safraz
- BUSINESS & ENTREPRENEURIAL LEADERSHIP AWARD
Awarded to the one who exemplifies what it means to be a "boss lady". She is a "hustler" and demonstrates a fearless pursuit in building her brand/business.

Rayah Hatahet - ATHLETIC EXCELLENCE AWARD
Awarded to she who is passionate about all things sports and has demonstrated remarkable athletic prowess. She exhibits sportsmanship on and off the field.

Ayan Ismail -  YOUNG WOMAN OF DISTINCTION AWARD
Awarded to a young woman between the ages of 14-25 who has made a mark in her community either through academic excellence, actively participating in community initiatives or simply by being someone who inspires and uplifts other women around her   

Farah Hasan - ARTS, CULTURE & ENTERTAINMENT AWARD
Awarded to someone who has demonstrated outstanding dedication to the stimulation and development of arts and cultural activities within the community or who has made a significant impact in the entertainment industry (singing, acting, modelling etc).

Katie Warfield - ALLIES OF MUSLIM WOMEN AWARD
Awarded to a Muslim man or a non-Muslim person who has been an ally in the community. They have helped build bridges in different communities and stand in solidarity with Muslim women.

Nada Elmasry - SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EDUCATION AWARD
Awarded to the one who is a passionate advocate for social justice issues and who seeks to educate others about those same issues in order to make a difference in the community.

Women of Tayybeh - CHAMPION OF WOMEN AWARD
Awarded to the powerhouse who is a trailblazer in her professional field and is the epitome of what it means to be a leader. She exhibits perseverance and resilience no matter what she does and has made significant contributions to breaking down barriers for Muslim women/femmes and never ceases to inspire and empower people around her.

Farida Bano Ali
- LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Awarded to the incredible being who has dedicated her life to being a leader for Muslim women in the community. She has constantly made significant contributions to her community through her work and achievements.
