Immediate Disclosure Regarding Police Involvement at the February 22, 2026 SGM at Surrey Jamea Masjid

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Executive Council, Trustees, and Surrey Delta Branch Leadership,

Pursuant to the principles of transparency, accountability as well as the fiduciary duties of directors and officers which require acting honestly and in good faith with a view to the best interests of the society — we, the members in good standing, formally appeal and request immediate public disclosure of the following critical information:

Who specifically authorized or requested the call to Surrey Police Service on February 22, 2026 during the member-requisitioned Special General Meeting (SGM) at Surrey Jamea Masjid?

What exact reasons were provided to the police when the call was made?

Why was police involvement deemed necessary when, as confirmed by the official Surrey Police Service statement (March 4-2026 ), officers found only a “disagreement between several parties,” intervened to separate individuals, encouraged both sides to disperse peacefully, and reported no arrests, no injuries, and no criminal conduct? What was the urgency that required over 10 police vehicles response to Surrey Jamea Masjid? 

It has now been over 10 days since the incident occurred on February 22, 2026, and no public statement has been issued by the Executive, the Board of Trustees, or the Surrey Delta Branch explaining these actions. This continued silence is inconsistent with:

BCMA Bylaws Article 5.5 (duties of the Secretary and Executive to maintain proper records and communicate transparently with members),

BCMA Bylaws Article 17.3 (requirement to keep and make available accurate records of general meetings and related proceedings),

Societies Act s. 20 (requirement to keep minutes and records of general meetings), and

Societies Act s. 53 (duty of directors to act with care, diligence, and in the best interests of the society, which includes avoiding actions that erode member trust).

The involvement of police at a community religious gathering and member meeting — especially when no criminal activity occurred — is a serious matter that directly affects member confidence in leadership, particularly in the lead-up to elections.

Why full disclosure before elections is essential:

Transparency is a core Islamic governance principle (shura and adl) and a statutory obligation under the Societies Act.

Members have a right to know whether any executive, trustee, or branch official used police intervention in a manner that could be perceived as an attempt to intimidate, disrupt, or influence a duly requisitioned SGM (BCMA Bylaws Article 17.2).

Failure to disclose who made the call and on what basis creates reasonable suspicion that the information is being withheld to protect individuals or factions ahead of the upcoming elections.

Disclosure before any election process resumes is necessary so members can make informed decisions about leadership integrity and fitness to hold office.

Continued non-disclosure risks further division and loss of trust. 

 

We therefore respectfully but urgently request:

A public written statement from the Executive Council, Board of Trustees, and Surrey Delta Branch clearly identifying:

a) The individual(s) who authorized/contacted Surrey Police,

b) The stated reasons given to police at the time of the call,

c) An explanation as to why police attendance was considered necessary given the Surrey Police outcome.

 

This statement should be emailed to all members and posted on the official BCMA website and communication channels.
