Baitul Mukarram Islamic Society (BMIS) – Serving the Community, Building a Permanent Home

Baitul Mukarram Islamic Society (BMIS), also known as BMIS, was established in 2016 by a few dedicated Bangladeshi brothers in Vancouver. From its humble beginnings, BMIS has been committed to serving both the local Muslim community and the wider society in the Lower Mainland.
Between 2016 and 2023, BMIS organized annual Blanket Drives and Food Drives for those in need on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. The society also held yearly Blood Donation Drives in partnership with Canadian Blood Services. These charitable initiatives were powered by volunteers who gave their time, energy, and resources for the sake of the community.
As the local Bangladeshi Muslim community continued to grow, BMIS expanded its activities. Since 2023, the society has been organizing two annual Eid Prayers, hosting daily Iftar with dinner during Ramadan, and providing initial support to newcomers by offering temporary shelter and guidance for survival jobs.
Currently, BMIS operates from a rental location at 6409 Arbroath Street, Burnaby, where five daily prayers are offered. However, with the community rapidly growing, there has been an urgent need for a permanent establishment.
Alhamdulillah, after years of searching, BMIS has now secured a unique property located at 7468 Edmonds Street, Burnaby. This site, already zoned for prayer assembly, was previously used by another faith group and is centrally located with potential to become a vibrant Islamic centre for generations to come.
The property was purchased for $3 million, with payments spread over three years. The first milestone was reached on February 28, 2025, with a $150,000 payment, followed by additional payments in June and September. The upcoming schedule includes:
•$400,000 – December 15, 2025
•$250,000 – March 16, 2026
•$250,000 – August 14, 2026
•$1,750,000 + closing costs – Final Payment
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our community to establish a permanent Islamic centre in a central Burnaby location. But we cannot do it without your help.
