Asad Syed Candidate for City Councilor Surrey

9-19-2018

Surrey is my home and it was love at first sight from the first day my family and I landed in Canada. We moved from Dallas, Texas twenty-four years ago through the Peace Arch Border with my lovely wife, two daughters, one son and my mother; Surrey has been our home since then.

I am an engineering geologist by profession and am currently self-employed as realtor and entrepreneur. Community involvement and volunteering is my passion, I love to interact with people and work together to solve the problems they face.

I consider myself a community activist and advocate for interfaith harmony and a multicultural society. As a member of Muslim community, I believe we do not have our representation in any level of government in BC, we need our fair share which is only possible by strong participation in political process of our community. I am the founder and past president of White Rock Muslim Association for twelve years. I have served on the Government Relation Committee of the Fraser Valley Real-estate Board (FVREB), as well as part of a BVOR Syrian refugee sponsorship and settlement program in a partnership between the First United Church and The White Rock Muslim Association.

I have volunteered for several charities and not-for-profit organizations including Delta Cable, Human Concern International, Muslim Food Bank, First United Church, City of Surrey Crescent Beach Cleanup, Soup kitchens, blanket and warm clothing drive, Recovery Society and participated in the Coldest Night Walk to name a few.

When elected, my ultimate goal is to work towards affordable housing, affordable rental units for low income families, eliminating homelessness, my strong belief is “Home is a human right not a privilege “  I will seek guarantee safety and security for Surrey residents, by establishing an effective and efficient local regional police, and bringing transparency and a caring approach to City Hall.

Surrey has given me my home, a good education for my children, love and respect for my whole family. Now is time for me to pay it forward into my community, I believe “Surrey Deserves Better.”
