Sikandar Hayat for Surrey School Board

9-19-2018

I am seeking get elected to represent White Rock on Surrey School Board. As a parent of two daughters currently enrolled in local public schools, my investment in the education system has never been stronger. My vested interest and commitment to providing quality education to all children within the Surrey School District stems from my background as an educator since 2005. Recognizing the need to provide quality education to local students at an affordable rate, my wife Suzanne and I have founded Amazing Tutors Inc and Amazing Tutors Children’s Foundation. We have helped thousands of students so far and continue to serve the local community.

I have always valued the message conveyed in the saying: “It takes a whole village to raise a child.” It is a short yet, powerful statement, which speaks about the important role collaboration plays in raising children within a community.

It also acknowledges the responsibility each individual has in raising children and creating a better tomorrow. This is because our children are our future. The people they grow into and decisions they will make will ultimately affect the whole community.

As educators, we have a responsibility of working together with the local community to ensure all students receive a good education and support they need. I have always recognized the important role collaboration plays in the education process and in helping students reach their full potential. In order to improve the education system, cooperation needs to take place not only between educators but also between all stakeholders who have a vested interest in the education system. It is this belief that has shaped my philosophy and goals when it comes to education.

If elected, I will seek guidance and wisdom from all stakeholder groups for the betterment of our students in order to make White Rock and Surrey schools a shining example of what the public education system can be by promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment. I will work hard for the development and promotion of programs for at-risk students and at-risk behaviours; creating curricular and extra-curricular opportunities for students to demonstrate their leadership capacity and to promote positive role-models in the greater community; increasing funding for Learning Support programs for students with exceptionalities to assist classroom teachers. I will also work hard to increase parent, community and student engagement in making policies to meet the needs of our students and reflect community wishes.

Please vote for me so together we can make our vision a reality.
