Masjid-ur-Rahmah Annual Jalsa Maktab Program on May 25th, 2017

6-13-2017

Masjid-ur Rahmah has seen an exponential growth in the number of Musallies in the past few years. Some of the reasons for the influx of people from various background flocking into this area is due to fact that this masjid is very lively with activities whether it be volunteer services, sports activities or religious studies.

Another major factor for this growth is the establishment of a solid Quran and Islamic Studies (maktab) school that runs in the evenings and the weekends totaling 12 separate classes. This program is conducted by 6 experienced Aalim and Aalima teachers, monitored very closely by the management committee. This program has given parents another reason to move into this locality and give their children the opportunity to benefit from this beautiful environment. Currently there are close to 140 students registered in the evening and weekend (maktab) Islamic School system.

Last year, the masjid extended their religious education and with the help of iLearn Secondary School next door, and incorporated 4 Islamic subjects into the 2016-2017 High School Curriculum. The Quran Hifz & Islamic Studies High School Program is almost completing its one year cycle. This project has been a great success for the community. Currently 13 students are benefitting from this program which caters from Grade 8 to 12.  Some of the students come from as far as Chilliwack and Burnaby. Maulana Yusuf is the coordinator of this Madrasah, and Aalima Sr. Sumaiya oversees the girls section. They both have done an excellent job in preparing the curriculum for the High School students and were very instrumental in getting those subjects approved for the Surrey School District through the Ministry of Education. These two teachers are assisted by the two Masjid-ur-Rahmah Imams, Hafiz Hamzah and Maulana Abdur Rahman to teach as well. There are four Islamic accredited subjects (Islamic Studies, Hifz/Qiraat, Arabic Writing, Arabic Language) taught daily from 8am to 12 noon at Masjid-ur-Rahmah and then subjects like Math, English, Sciences, and Socials are taught at iLearn Secondary School next door from 12:45 pm to 3:45 pm. Currently registrations are being taken for the 2017-2018 high school year.

May 25th, Masjid Rahmah evening and weekend Quran and Islamic Studies (maktab) committee held their Annual Jalsa at Masjid-ur-Rahmah.

The program was very well attended by over 200 people. The students were presented with awards in several categories for their achievements. Top Students were awarded medals and certificates, while all the students were presented with a Masjid-ur-Rahmah Madrasah bag, candies and stationery. After the presentations, the students and parents had light refreshments served with Pizza, Tandoori Chicken and drinks.
