MP Ahmed Hussen becomes first Somali-Canadian Minister

Born and raised in Mogadishu, Somalia, moved to Canada as a refugee, A lawyer and community activist, MP Ahmed Hussen after a cabinet shuffle becomes the first Somali-Canadian minister of Canada.

Thanks to PM Justin Trudeau, MP Ahmed Hussen representing York South—Weston riding as a member of the Liberal Party of Canada is the new Minister of Immigration Refugees and Citizenship.
Ahmed’s success story is huge for Somali Canadians.

“Asylum seekers are not criminals.” Ahmed Hussen, addressed the recent death of migrants from Somalia and the Horn of Africa before the Canadian Parliament. Ahmed Hussen received a standing ovation for his compassion.

“I am extremely proud of our country’s history as a place of asylum, a place that opens its doors and hearts to new immigrants and refugees, and I’m especially proud today to be the minister in charge of that file,” Hussen told reporters outside the House of Commons on Tuesday, January 10th..

“The story of Canada is the story of immigration, and I’m especially proud and humbled that the prime minister would task me with this important role.”
