Junaid Jamshed – unofficial Ambassador of Pakistan, Forever to remain in our Hearts

Junaid Jamshed, Once one of Pakistan's most iconic pop Singers turned evangelist is no more.

His song Dil Dil Pakistan is the unofficial Pakistani national Anthem played at public gatherings since its release in 1987

On Wednesday November 7th, Junaid and his family with their three children were among the 48 people killed on board Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-661 which crashed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on route from Chitral to Islamabad.

He was born on September 3, 1964, and adorned many hats as a recording artist, television personality, fashion designer and singer-songwriter.

His popularity in Pakistan was more than that of Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt.

"The voice of my youth, the voice of my generation," tweeted Huma Shah, a TV broadcaster and one of many who grew up listening to Jamshed's music.

On a Facebook post his company posted

"We regret to inform you that Mr. Junaid Jamshed has passed away. The store will be closed from December 7th to December 9th in his honor. Please remember him in your prayers. Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience."

His stores “J.” offered up high-end, trendy clothes for men, women and children. He also owned stores in Dallas, Chicago and New York and Houston, UK, and Pakistan. 

In 2004 At the height of his music career, he denounced singing, become a follower of the Tableeghi Jamaat- an evangelical group and devoted his life to Islam.

Jamshed had been visiting Chitral as part of a 15-day preaching tour.

Just before boarding his trip, He described Chitral as “heaven on Earth” on His Twitter account.

Junaid had almost 2.8 million Facebook fans. This year, he also placed in a list of World's 500 Most Influential Muslims.

"We surely belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return. Everything has an end. May he, and others who were on that flight be blessed, and may Allah give their families courage. Aameen," wrote Muhammad Ukasha.
