MYC CELEBRATES ITS FIRST 1ST DEGREE BLACK BELTS

10-04-2016

Saturday, October 1, 2016 was a very special day for the Muslim Youth Centre.  Siblings, Omar and Saarah Rahiman were presented their 1st Degree Black Belts in Taekwondo at a traditional Taekwondo Tea Ceremony. Omar and Saarah Rahiman were the first students of the MYC Self Defense Class since June 2008 and are now trainee instructors.

The MYC Self Defense Class started in June 2008 by Adam Ishmail with the help of his instructor, Mrs. S. Mysynuk, owner of Sonfire Taekwondo in Richmond.  Adam is a nationally certified instructor and is now assisted by his sister, Alia Ishmail, certified trainer.  The Self Defense class is on Saturdays at 11:30 am for boys and girls from age 5.

The MYC was founded in 2000 by the late Imam Asgar Husain. During his work as the BC Muslim Chaplain for the prisons, he saw the need for a safe haven for youth.

The Muslim Youth Centre is located at 209-7750 128th Street in Surrey. The MYC’s weekly events can be found on the website www.muslimyouthcentre.ca
