ISNA CANADA POST – RAMADAN REPORT 2016

ISNA Canada held an Iftar for Syrian Refugees on Saturday, June 18 from 7pm – 9pm at the Grand Taj Banquet Hall in Surrey, British Columbia
Iftar Highlights Include:
· A welcoming event for Syrian refugees to learn about ISNA Canada
· 73 refugee families and needy families were invited with the help of volunteer English-Arabic translators
· Nutritious halal meal served to over 150 men, women, and children
Iftar Description:
The purpose of the iftar was to welcome the newcomer Syrian refugee families who have applied to the organization Women in Dawah for assistance. ISNA Canada in collaboration with Women in Dawah made financial donations to these families. It was an occasion to familiarize them with the services available to them through ISNA Canada and Women in Dawah organizations.
The iftar was hosted by ISNA Canada Committee BC under the leadership of Khadija Saidi, ISNA Canada Western Representative and ISNA Canada Memberships Director
The evening began with information on the backgrounds of both ISNA Canada and the Women in Dawah.
An informational presentation and videos with Arabic subtitles were shown at:
- The 42nd ISNA Canada Annual Convention which took place in May 2016
- The ISNA Canada SNOW (Syrian Newcomer Orientation Workforce) Program
- The Muneeba Centre for disabled individuals which was recently opened in Mississauga
We also showed an inspiring video about the dawah work by a brother whose Pious group Projects in Malawi has provided clean water, built schools, and Hospitals.
After the Iftar:
ISNA Canada provided financial assistance to 35 refugee families during Ramadan 2016, while Women in Dawah also provided financial assistance for another 38 refugee families and over 20 needy families.
Alhamdulillah, in total, at least 150 attended the Iftar (120 adults and 30 children).
There are 73 refugees families (which equate to over 300 individuals) receiving support including their children and spouses. This does not include 22 to 25 needy families who are also receiving assistance from Women in Dawah
Beyond Ramadan:
The ISNA Canada Committee and Women in Dawah have arranged to meet with the Syrian Refugees to discuss and plan continued assistances including motivational ways in their process to settle in BC.
ISNA Canada has a program for Syrian Refugees in Mississauga Ontario. ISNA Canada assists those individuals as a national organization through its various committees and in collaboration with other organizations. Assistance given by ISNA Canada goes through approval as follows: ISNA Canada President Dr. Imtiaz Ahmad, Executive Director Shaykh Abdalla Idris Ali, and the Board of Directors (Majlis).
ISNA Canada is open to working with organizations in the areas of Education including the IDB Scholarship Program, Multiculturalism, Refugees settling in Canada, and our contribution to the wider society as Muslim Canadians.
The ISNA Canada Schools in Ontario are among the top ten best schools. The curricula for these schools was developed by the help of Shaykh Abdalla Idris Ali, ISNA Canada’s Executive Director
