Local Field Hockey Goalie selected for Masters World Cup in Canberra, Australia

3-22-2016

Jaimud Dean (most know him as JD or Jim Dean); a local Richmond resident has been selected by Field Hockey Canada to represent Canada at the Masters World Cup in Canberra, Australia.  Canberra is Australia’s capital and home to the National Hockey Centre for this year’s tournament. Players have been selected from across Canada to represent the Canadian team.  The first three games, starting March 28, 2016, will be against Australia, South Africa and England – a tough pool!

JD started playing field hockey at the age of 10 with the encouragement of his dad the late Sarfud Dean.  After watching teams play at the park behind their house JD’s dad said ‘let’s go sign you up’.  Thirty five years later JD is one of the best goalies in Canada and still enjoys the challenge and game.

JD represented BC in field hockey on several tournaments and played in the BC Summer Games.  He currently plays for the Surrey Sharks.  “Representing Canada for the first time is an honour and privilege and I feel humbled to be selected by Field Hockey Canada.  I would like to thank Field Hockey Canada and my family and friends for their support”.

JD is also an active member of our Muslim community.  He is the current VP of BC Muslim Sports and has been with the association since 2000 in various roles.  He has played in Premier and over 35 division in FANCA and the current league commissioner of the Muslim Soccer League.  JD also finds time to play goalie for the Muslim Ice Hockey Team (Iron Sheiks) in the ASHL (along with his little brother Faisel Dean of Dean Pharmacy)!

JD’s biggest fans are his family, Zabeena (wife), Shahira and Sumayya (daughters), Mehrul (mother), Faisel (brother) and Tahzi Ali (sister).  Also let’s not forget the nieces and nephews who look forward to watching the broadcast of the games.  All the best to JD!  Go Team Canada!
