Fast approaching Canadian elections: Are we ready to take action?

8-12-2015

Elections are around the corner and many current and future politicians are hosting political gatherings with different names. I would encourage you to

(1) host a gathering for a candidate of your choice or

(2) host an all-candidate meeting or

(3) participate in these gatherings

Whichever option you choose, be prepared to ask dignitaries specific questions about issues related to Canadians in general and especially Muslim-Canadians. See where they stand on those issues.

Very often, we complain about many policies, issues, and incidents which are not going right, but when we are given the opportunity to ask questions in such political gatherings, we do not ask those questions and happily settle for photo sessions with dignitaries. We need to wake up to the reality that the photo sessions are more beneficial to the politicians, not to the voters. Politicians are always looking for opportunity to have you with them in a picture; you are more important than the politicians. You are the Kingmakers because dignitaries are dignitaries ONLY because of your vote. Do NOT settle for a mere picture, but do ask precise and relevant questions and (politely) demand a precise, relevant answer.

Please look at each party's and/or candidate's track record and make an informed decision. Invest an hour or two on the internet to educate yourself about political parties and their candidates in your area. Whoever gets elected will be making decisions which will affect many years of your life. Please take it more seriously and make sure to VOTE on the Election Day. If we don't exercise our right to vote to elect people who will truly represent us, then we will have no one to blame but ourselves.

Best Regards
