What Next After Ramadhan?: 5 Goals

7-29-2015

The blessed month of Ramadhan brought out the best in all of us: we were kind with people, we were charitable, we regularly recited the Quran, we visited the Masjid frequently, we attended the Taraweeh Salat past midnight, and all in all, our piety was at a very high level in Ramadhan Alhamdulillah. Consequently, our spiritual battery has been charged to 100%.

To carry on with the religious momentum after Ramadhan, I provide the following 5 post-Ramadhan goals:

1) The nights of midnight Taraweehs have come to an end but we should still visit the Masjid at a minimum once every day. Every day, we leave our houses to go somewhere. Similarly, if we live less than ten minutes drive away from the masjid, then we should perform at least one of the five daily mandatory Salats in the Masjid in congregation. With our children in their summer holidays, we should also bring them to the Masjid at least once every day and we should make sure that they perform their Jumuah Salat in the Masjid.

2) Read more. Every month, we should have a target of how much Quran we will recite. Along with that, every month, we should be reading at least 1~3 books on any topic. We should increase our Islamic knowledge by attending (as a family) weekly Quran Tafseer and Fiqh lectures in the Masjid.

3) Enroll our children in the various Quran and Islamic Studies classes being offered in the Masjid. The Masjid offers weekday evening Quran and Islamic Studies classes by Male and Female Islamic Scholars. Masjid Ar-Rahmah is also starting two new classes: five days a week evening part-time Hifz classes and Saturday School from 10 AM till 2 PM.

4) The month of fasting has come to an end. This year, we fasted on the longest days of the year so it will be easier to fast on other days of the year. Prophet Muhammed Sallallahu Alaihe Wasallam said, “Whoever fasts Ramadhan and follows it up with six days from Shawwal, it is as if they fasted the entire year.” (Muslim:1164) We should also try to fast on Mondays and Thursdays. Prophet Muhammed Sallallahu Alaihe Wasallam said, “Deeds are presented on Monday and Thursday, and I love that my deeds be presented while I am fasting.” (Tirmidhi:747)

5) The month of being charitable is coming to end but we should still be donating to our masjid on a regular basis. Every single full-time working person in the family should donate a minimum of $500 to the Masjid on a yearly basis. Please fill out a preauthorized payment form. Masjids run efficiently on the generous contributions of people like you. Jazakumullah for your continued financial support.

May Allah accept our pious deeds. May we remain attached with the Masjid after Ramadhan as well. Aameen.
