Pakistani Community Welcome The New Consulate General

It had been a busy weekend for the newly appointed Consulate General of Pakistan and his team, as the two leading Pakistani organizations, Pakistan Canada Association (PCA), and Pakistani Canadian Cultural Association (PCCA) held events in his honour, and also to celebrate 137th Iqbal Day, the visionary, Poet of the east, Dr. Allama Mohammed Iqbal, visionary father of Pakistan.

On November 8th, 2014, PCCA held a meeting with its board of directors, key community members, elders, and media to introduce the organization, its board of directors, and the work they perform on behalf of the community, and equally welcoming the Consulate General, Dr. Muhammad Tariq, and Vice-Consul, Mr. Fahad Amjad.

In a three hour fruitful meeting PCCA President, Mr. Naveed Waraich, through a power point presentation highlighted the history, current projects, and future aims of the organization.

The Consulate General, and Vice Consul also addressed the audience outlining the work they perform on behalf of the government of Pakistan, and met with the board of directors and other guests.

Community Members were provided with the opportunity to outline their concerns and how the Consulate office can better serve the need of the Pakistani Community of western Canada, specifically, in BC.

On November 9th, PCCA held a separate function to commemorate Iqbal Day at Studio 7 in Surrey, where children presented speeches on Dr. Iqbal, and series of speakers shared Iqbal's poetry.

On November 10th, PCA in collaboration with the Vancouver Al Jamia Masjid Held an event "Muslims Unite Against Terror and Extremism - A Call For Peace" at the Grand Taj Banquet. The event was attended by distinguished guests, Consulate General, his staff and MP, Jinny Sims.

The event consisted of recognizing sacrifices made by Canadian Soldiers in keeping Canada safe. A moment of silence was observed for the Canadian soldiers whom have died in current and past wars.

PCA President, Haroon Khan welcomed the Consulate General, and assured him of his cooperation during his tenure in Vancouver.

BCMA President, Mr. Musa Ismail addressed the audience and spoke about the importance of Muslim communities involvement in wider Canadian Society. He talked about difficulties faced by Muslims and Muslim organizations in Canada during these trying times.

The Consulate General of Pakistan also addressed the audience, assuring them full support through his office.

A brief Synopsis on Consulate General, Dr. Muhammad Tariq: He holds a  Bachelor in Medicine, and has been serving the Pakistan Foreign Services since 1992. His past experience includes, serving in South Asia, Afghanistan, National Assembly, Senate Affairs Division in Islamabad, and Assistant Secretariat (Protocol) in President's Secretariat. He comes with a lengthy foreign services history of working in Pakistani Embassies in Zagreb, Croatia, Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina, Switzerland, Iran, and before arriving to Vancouver, he was working as the Director General (Africa) within Foreign Ministry in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Similarly, Vice Consul, Mr. Fahad Amjad holds a degree in Law and is an alumni of Garrison Academy, Government College Lahore, AND Pakistan College of Law. His previous appointments as an Assistant Director, and Assistant Chief of Protocol. He is married to Ms. Ammara Shaukat, and a proud father of a son.
