United for Sikandar Hayat.

11-05-2014

Friday October 24, 2014 was a great day for our local Muslim community in Surrey, as leaders of many Muslim associations came under one roof to show their support for Sikandar Hayat, a candidate for School Trustee (Surrey  Board of Education). That has sent a strong message to everyone out there: We're are all united for Sikandar Hayat. The Support Sikandar Hayat Fundraising Dinner was a huge success. Tens of brothers, sisters, and even kids came and had a great time.

G. Murtaza Chaudhry was the MC of the evening and reminded the audience about the great works Sikandar Hayat has done for our local communities, especially Muslim community. For example; Sikandar Hayat

•Amazing Tutors Children’s Foundation, Co-Founder / Director
•Surrey Muslim School  PAC, former Chairman
• Muslim Youth Centre, former Vice President
•has organized a Clothing & Blanket Drive (in November 2013) for the Homeless
• has organize a free Parenting Seminar at the Strawberry Hill Library
•W.E. Kinwig Elementary School PAC, member
•Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, assisted seniors with their shopping needs
•Oakridge Seniors' Centre, volunteered with food preparation
•The LivingRoom Drop-In Activity Center, served food to the mentally ill

Sikandar Hayat informed everyone about the reasons behind him running for School Trustee. He said, "Problems in Surrey schools are going up and quality of education is going down. Only 58% of our grade 12 graduate students were able to enter a post secondary institution in 2012. Our stuedents do not feel safe at schools because of bullying and gangs problems. Many students join gangs to stay safe from bullying and that is just the beginning of another huge problem: a start towards organized gangs. Our young students do not have adequate programs to learn and practice youth leadership roles. We came to Canada for a better future. Our kids are our future. Let's do our part to provide the best education for our kids,  in the safest and most inclusive learning environment. When elected on NOVEMBER 15th,  I will donate at least 20% of my salary towards the development / promotion of programs for at-risk students and at-risk behaviours. Please vote for me, Sikandar HAYAT, on November 15, 2014 and help me help your children."

Sikandar HAYAT further requested everyone present to take his message to their own family members and friends and ask them to do the same: spread the message throughout Surrey. He said, "Please take few minutes out of your busy schedules and make a list of your friends' phone numbers/email. Make sure to call/email them and tell them the importance of voting on November 15th. Repeat the same thing again on November 15th. It is going to require a bit of an effort but please do it for your own children / grandchildren's sake. Only 25% of registered voters voted in the last Civic election. We MUST do better this time. Every vote has a great value. While many people across many nations are dying to have a right to vote, 75% of us did not realize the importance of this right in the last Civic election. If you don't use your right to vote, someone else will. And then you'll have to live for next 4 years based on only 25% people's wishes/choices."
