NDP MLA'S and MP's Host Eid Open House

8-13-2014

Here in Vancouver, it has become our unique  tradition, Eid Open Houses.

The open House concept was largely practiced among the Muslim immigrants of Fijian decent.

Usually, Muslims After Morning Eid ul Fitr Prayers, would get together at their parents house and have a re-union and invite close friends and families over to their house.

The Fijian community went a step further to vist many of their family and friends during their day making hops and stops throught the day some on avegare 25 houses is a normal.

Then came the advent of renting halls where large familes would get together and just rent a hall where everyone of the extended family and friends would get together.

Well our NDP friends realizing the need of meeting and connecting with the Muslim community also started to hosts Eid ul Fitr open houses at their offices and this year they planned and hosted a grand event to celebrate Eid with the Community.

On August 5th, NDP leader John Horgan welcomed the Muslim community at the Indian Banquet Hall in Surrey. Joining him was other local MP Jinny Sims, MP Jasbir Sandhu, MLA Harry Bains, MLA Sue Hammel and MLA Bruce Ralston.

Hundreds of Muslims attended the event and were much thankful for the NDP to host such an event.
