The BCMA Board of Women’s Affairs Report

Since the election of the new Board of Women’s Affairs, our goal and vision has been to promote events and activities for Women and Youth in BC.   All Praise be to Allah we are on a focused path to achieving our goals.

Some of the activities and events since December 2013

1)      November 2013 - Fundraising Hot Lunch for Philippine Typhoon raised $1500.

2)      December 2013 –Visited Victoria and formed Working Committee at Masjid Iman Victoria

3)      January 2013 - Empowering Women/Youth through Self-defense (4 weeks program)

4)      February 2014 – Visited and revived Working Committee at Abbotsford Islamic Centre

5)      February 2014 - Educational Ghusul Workshop & Halaqa on Hayatul Dunyia Wal Maut coordinated with Richmond and Vancouver Women’s Chapter

6)      March 2014 - Hosted Leadership Forum /Youth Workshop on International Women’s Day.

7)      June 2014 - Youth Director Bowling for Sisters/Youth

8)      June 2014 – Educational Ghusul Workshop and Halaqa on Mayyat coordinated with Surrey Delta and Surrey East Womens.

 

Future planned events and programs include:

·         Open Forum on Social Issues of Honour Killing/Rape Awareness

·         Workshop/Halaqa on Sisters etiquette and sisterhood

·         Second fundraising event in September for VGH and UBC Hospital Foundation for New Mental Health Centre

·         Youth workshops and activities

·         Improving our Social Services to the Muslim community

o   Outreach programs by Womens Affairs

o   Muslim Foster Children services

o   Counselling services for families in distress in Domestic Violence

o   Counselling services and support for Mental Health
