Muslim Business Council Fundraiser Huge Success

7-02-2014

Surrey Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Department was the recipient of incredible generosity on Sunday evening. A fundraising dinner sponsored by the Muslim Business Council brought together a cross section of the community whose donations of $58,000.00 have provided 13 Isoflex mattresses for the Laurel House Palliative Care. These mattresses give comfort and ease the pain of those patients.

Dr. Naiyer Habib brought this cause to the attention of MBC and has worked in concert with Don Hickling from the Surrey Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Department to bring the good work that palliative care provides to the citizens of British Columbia to our attention. We heard that Laurel House has 20 private rooms that provide accommodation for family members to stay with their loved ones around the clock. Many of us have had the experience of caring for our ill family members. We know that even with our best intentions it is not always enough to give our loved ones the comfort and care that they require. Laurel House and Surrey Memorial Hospital’s Palliative Care professionals use the donations to purchase specialized equipment such as lifts and gel mattresses to give patients comfort in their last days.

Brother Mohammed Yasin and his devoted team are to be congratulated for putting on such a fabulous evening. But of course it is the commitment and generosity of our community members who donated such an incredible amount of money that will bring peace and comfort to the very ill.
