Political Accountability

4-09-2014

The reason most brazen politicians get away with their nonsense (Jenny Kwan, Bev Oda or others) is that there is no one keeping regular tabs on how they are performing.

Only when something absurd hits the fan does it make the news, e.g. $16 for a glass of orange juice.  By that time the damage has already been done.

In other countries, there is a monthly newsletter that outlines various issues and how the elected officials voted on them, on city, province and national levels.  It reads like a spreadsheet that is easy to follow.

These come out monthly, and the politicians know that someone is watching every move they make so they tend to be better behaved than the urchins we have now.

I have been advocating such a publication for years, but no one has taken me up on this.  Ergo, the corruption continues to flourish.

When will some responsible journalist be brave enough to expose them for what they are?
