This is what Iqra students said about their projects….

Hassan Ahmad (Silver Medal Winner)

My name is Hassan Ahmad and I am a Grade 7 student at Iqra Islamic School. I was lucky enough to have my Science Fair invention featured in the 2019 South Fraser Regional Science Fair. Alhamdulillah, I was awarded the Silver Medal this year in the category of Engineering and Computing Sciences. My award-winning invention, The Pedal Powered Phone Charger, could not be complete without the hard work and dedication I needed to put in to it. The basic structure of my invention involved an innovational circuit, which I constructed to charge your phone with the movement of your bicycle wheel. My invention is a faster and more efficient solution to charging your phone while getting a good amount of exercise. The more you pedal, the more your phone will charge. The Regionals were a great experience and opportunity for learning, which I hope to take with me to High School.

Mohamed Chebab (Silver Medal Winner)

My name Mohamed Chebab and I am in 7-1. I had the honor of being chosen to display my project at the 13th Annual South Fraser Regional Science Fair, and at the Science Fair, my project won a silver medal. My project was about RFID. I devised 2 different wallets to protect from credit card information thief. I also included a short analysis/study of the RFID wallet market.  I worked hard on my project to get where I am. Almost every weekend before our school Science Fair, I worked for hours on end to perfect my project, and after the school Fair, I kept at it, perfecting my presentation. I think it is very important to work hard for your goals, and in the end, my hard work paid off, and I learned lessons I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Aayan Ali (Bronze Medal Winner)

In my project, I tested which materials are best to protect a person’s bones. The purpose of this project was to find out which material is the best to protect you from fractures and to use this information to make products that could protect the bones of anybody. I used chalks to replace bones because both of them have calcium in them. I used oobleck, sponge, EPE foam, and silicone as materials to protect the chalks from breaking. I predicted that oobleck would shield the chalks from the highest height and velocity. After I dropped the chalks and found out which protected the chalk from the highest height, I calculated the velocity of each chalk right before it hit the ground. I found out that oobleck protected the chalk from the highest height and velocity.

Maheen Syed (Bronze Medal Winner)

My name is Maheen Syed and I am a grade 7 student at Iqra Islamic School. This year I had the opportunity to compete in the South Fraser Regional Science Fair with my award-winning invention the Child Alert device. It was a great learning experience and I would highly recommend participating to anyone who has the good fortune to attend the event. My project was an innovation designed as a warning system to help reduce the amount of child abductions. I created the device with an on and off button, so that when the on button is triggered an alert is sent to a nearby phone. The device sends a notification on a phone app warning the receiver about a potential threat to their child. It was truly an honour to be amongst like-minded innovators dedicated to creating positive change in this world.
