Fundraiser for Al-Ihsan Women's Vocational Center of Bangladesh

5-01-2019

By the grace of Allah (SWT) and your generous support, the fundraising of Al-Ihsan Girl’s School of Bangladesh went well with a record number in attendance. Even though we didn’t  reach our goal, we are sure our generous brothers and sisters will help us reach in the upcoming days.

We thank you all who participated at this event and who couldn’t because of other needs; may Allah(SWT) shower His blessing on all of you.  Special thanks to our fundraiser, Seikh Refaat Mohamed who left his family behind in Toronto and travelled all the way here to raise funds for these destitute children.  We also thank all of our volunteers who worked hard to make this event successful.  May Allah(SWT) reward us all and grant us Jannatul Ferdaous.

Here is a recap and some recent updates on Al-Ihsan Girl’s School of Bangladesh.

Al-Ihsan Girl’s School is located in Hashara, a remote village of Munshiganj district of Bangladesh. Al Ihsan has been diligently working here for last 15 years to help improve the livelihood of the poor and destitute and enlighten them with the light of education.

Al Ihsan was founded back in 2004 to serve the underprivileged and needy. The organization started its journey with 30 part-time adult female students in a small tin-shed house. Now, it has a 5-story academic building and 2 two-story buildings for  orphans. Currently the orphanage can accommodate up to 60 children.

This center has two independent sections: Al Ihsan Girls’ School and Hifzul Quran Center. By the grace of Almighty, both the sections have their own Qur’an memorizing programs. Al Ihsan provides general education and vocational training to 224 non-resident students at the moment from Pre-K up to grade-8. The Orphanage has 21 orphan children under specialized curriculum focusing on memorization of the holy Quran along with regular studies and vocational training. This institution has become a beacon of confidence for the poor people of the area who could not think of educating their children otherwise.

If you remember last year’s fundraiser where we portrayed life of two kids, Kulsum and Sumaiya. Kuslum was working as a maid and Sumaiya was studying at Al-Ihsan. After that event, we got overwhelming response from many brothers and sisters and Alhamdulillah we brought her to our orphanage. Let’s see what she is doing now days:

At the orphanage, Kulsum along with other 20 orphans, starts their day with Tahajjud and Fajar Salah. After praying Fazar they take light breakfast and start reading and memorizing Quran. They remain busy with study and other activities until 10:00PM.

Let’s see what the non-resident school children of Al-Ihsan Girls’ school are doing. You will be happy to know that Al-Ihsan became 1st out of many participating Schools at country wide PSC exam for the 5th grader, all got A+ except 1 who got A.  1 student got regular government scholarship and 1 got talent pool scholarship out of many students.  Al-Ihsan Grade-8 students did average result in JSC exam, so we are taking few initiatives to do better in future.  We had to remove grade 9 and 10 because of budget deficit.  In order to run it, we need specialized and high skilled teacher from the city also we need a full fledge science lab which will increase our monthly bill by $5000.  We are working hard to become partially sustainable so that we could afford to add grade 8 and 9 in future, InshaAllah.  Al-Ihsan has introduced Hifz program for the general school students as well. Students from grade-1 to grade-4 participate in the Hifz program early in the morning. They also study 3 basic subjects. English, Math and Bengali. All students participate in Zuhr salah and take their lunch during lunch break at 12:00PM.

Students also participate in vocational training. They learn sewing, embroidery, and handcrafts. Also, they learn basic computing at Al-Ihsan computer lab.

With an increasing demand of accommodation for orphans, Al-Ihsan started the orphanage in year 2017 as a pilot project with few children. After a very successful run till 2018, Al Ihsan has decided to scale up the orphanage project. With the help of Almighty, Al-Ihsan is accommodating 21 orphans like Kulsum who otherwise would have lived a life in poverty or a life as a household maid.

A strict admission criterion is being maintained in the orphanage to ensure that the benefit reaches to the children in most need. The orphanage takes care of all sorts of needs of the orphans under its care. Thanks to the generous support of Muslims around the world.

Al-Ihsan provides basic Islamic education to elderly women early in the morning.

Al Ihsan conducts various activities for the students to encourage them in their studies to boost up their morals. These activities include: annual sports, picnic, indoor and outdoor games, computer classes, lab-based science projects and Quran competitions in Ramadan.

Al-Ihsan provides many free facilities to its students. These facilities include: free school uniform, text books, study materials, healthy lunch, iftar during Ramadan, Eid dress, health care and medicine. Al-Ihsan also provides monthly stipend to selective students based on their need and academic performance and prizes for different events.

Al-Ihsan also contributes in the society through initiatives like blanket distribution, deep water-well installation for arsenic free water, tree plantation and distribution of Zakat, fitrana and Qurbani meat. Since 2004, Al-Ihsan installed many water wells in surround villages. And it is saving thousands of people from this poisonous arsenic. Al-Ihsan also reach out to many natural and humanitarian disaster victims of Bangladesh. Al-Ihsan helped the SIDR cyclone victims in 2007 and installed water-well and temporary shelter at Rohingiya refugee camp in 2018.

Al Ihsan aims to utilize the blessings of wealthy people to hands of the one who deserve it most. Destitute women of Bangladesh deserve this help because of their extreme vulnerability. Al-Ihsan has a long-term vision to scale up its current capacities and create opportunities for more such orphans and poor children to get another chance for a better and healthy life.

We still have in our list to upgrade the school up to grade 10 and add 40 more orphans to our orphanage and this could only be possible with your support, cooperation and prayer.

The last but not the least, we request your help to our Fitrana and Zabiha program where we distribute a food package to each student’s family so that they can celebrate their Eid with a good meal.
