4-17-2019

On Saturday March 30th, 2019  Vancouver’s Algerian Community organized a SIT-IN  in support of the “Smiling Revolution” in Algeria.

This was the first “SIT IN” in held locally in which over hundred people gathered at the Vancouver Art Gallery to show their support.

The protest are in solidarity with the people of Algeria who were calling for the ouster of longtime President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. Ailing Bouteflika, 82, was first elected in 1999 and planned to seek a fifth term next month, a decision which prompted the first protests in February.

Since the protests started under pressure, Bouteflika did resign.
