BC Residents Donating More Since Covid-19 Crisis

Despite some heart-breaking news we’re receiving everyday due to Covid-19, There are some good news to share— in the last few weeks there has been more than a 50% rise in monthly gifts for Canadians during this time of need.

British Columbia residents have been generous this year — over 14% of families have donated which makes it the 2nd highest donating province in the country.

A report by Marina Glogovac, the President & CEO of Canada Helps highlights in the Giving Report.

Canada Helps, the country's largest platform for donating and fundraising online, released the third annual edition of The Giving Report with insights on Canadians trends in giving. Please see below for highlights that might pique your interest:

  • Ontario is the highest giving province accounting for 42% of the total donations in Canada ($117.9M), British Columbia and Alberta take the third and fourth spots with 14% and 13%, respectively. 

·      Online giving is growing at nearly three times the rate of overall giving. 

  • Donors aged 55+ gave $6.9 billion to charity in Canada in 2017, almost double the $3.5 billion given by Canadians aged 25-54.
  • Biggest drop in donation rates is in the 45-54 age band
  • Canadian charities contribute 8% of GDP, and account for approximately 10% of the full-time workforce in Canada.
