Torrential rain overnight caused chaos to Albania’s transportation system, blocking streets and stopping flights and ferries from operating.
Last night was very difficult for Albania, with heavy rains flooding businesses and homes, with at least 315 people evacuated in a Tirana Mall and some Fushe Kruja homes.
Vlora and Fier Emergency authorities are cooperating as the Vjosa River has flooded lands along its bed. People are expected to be evacuated from Novosela, Fotore, Bishan, etc.
Electricity was interrupted in 23 Fier villages, due to problems with the lines.
Roads in Korca were blocked while Maliq and Lekas have been without electricity for seven hours.
Many villages in Bulqiza have remained without electricity as well.
The Tirana-Durres highway is now free, but the Durres-Tirana side is still blocked.
The airport runway was filled with water, causing all flights to be delayed. The situation may be even worse in the days to come since meteorological stations expect rain precipitations to continue with the same intensity.
The Ministry of Interior appeals citizens to avoid unnecessary travels.
